Pierre-Joseph Redouté. El libro de las flores. 40th Ed.
The floral painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840) devoted himself body and soul to botanical arts and captured the diversity of flowering plants in watercolors that were published as stipple engravings, with detailed descriptions. Adored and admired by Parisian high society, he had a network of patrons, including Napoleon’s wife, Josephine. He was nicknamed the “Raphael of flowers” and is still considered a master of botanical illustration.
This edition, an adaptation of our successful XL volume, is presented in a smaller, more accessible format, and brings together some of the color botanical engravings from his magnificent volumes Les roses, Les lilas and The selection of the most beautiful flowers and branches with the best fruits. A showcase of his extraordinary skill in combining precision and beauty that offers a unique view of magnificent greenhouses and gardens of old Paris.
