Immerse yourself in the unsettling and dark world of Gilead with this special edition that brings together two of the most striking works by Margaret Atwood: The Handmaid's Tale and its sequel, The Testaments.

In The Handmaid's Tale, Atwood presents a theocratic and totalitarian society where women have been stripped of their rights and reduced to mere instruments of reproduction. Through the story of Offred, a handmaid whose sole function is to bear children, the author explores themes such as oppression, resistance, and the power of desire. Written in the 1980s, the novel resonates with disturbing relevance and warns about the dangers of mixing religion and politics.

The Testaments picks up the story fifteen years after the end of The Handmaid's Tale. In this sequel, Atwood answers questions that have captivated readers for decades. Through the testimonies of three narrators, the inner workings of Gilead and the fate of its inhabitants are revealed. Winner of the 2019 Man Booker Prize, it is an essential continuation that broadens and enriches the universe created by Atwood.

This special edition is an opportunity to fully explore the world of Gilead, with the powerful prose and clarity that characterize Margaret Atwood.

Synopsis: The Handmaid's Tale
In a theocratic republic that has stripped women of their rights, Offred is forced to bear children under a regime that controls her body, her clothing, and her daily life. Written in the 1980s, the novel accurately anticipates the dangers of mixing religion and politics and contrasts the discipline of power with individual thought and desire. A heartbreaking tale marked by Atwood’s characteristic sarcasm.

Synopsis: The Testaments
Fifteen years after the end of The Handmaid's Tale, three voices from the world of Gilead reveal its inner workings and the fate of its inhabitants. Atwood answers open questions and expands the universe of the first novel with a tense plot about resistance, memory, and truth. Winner of the 2019 Man Booker Prize, it is an essential continuation that expands the fable of Gilead.
