La geometría del trigo
La geometría del trigo is one of the most recognized plays by Alberto Conejero, a piece about memory, emotional inheritances, and the bonds that connect different generations.
The story begins when Joan and Laia, a couple going through a crisis, travel from Barcelona to a small town in the south to attend the funeral of Joan’s father, a man he never got to know. That trip triggers an unexpected search: to reconstruct a family past of which they are also a part.
In the landscape of the old lead mines of Jaén appear the voices of Emilia, Antonio, Beatriz, and Samuel, characters who hold fragments of a story marked by silence, desire, and the passage of time. A stone and a letter become the only clues to understand that incomplete legacy.
With deeply lyrical writing, Conejero builds a play about the need to listen to the past in order to understand the present, exploring how the stories we inherit continue to shape the geometry of our lives.
La geometría del trigo won the National Dramatic Literature Award in Spain in 2019, one of the most important recognitions in contemporary Spanish-language theater.
